“Partnerships to develop capacity
for Global Surgery and Anesthesia”
Dylan is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and the Department of Innovation in Medical Education at the University of Ottawa. He trained in anesthesia at University College London and did fellowships in medical education at Toronto’s St Michael’s Hospital, Pediatric Anesthesia at SickKids and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. While in Toronto he undertook a Masters in Education at the U of T.
Dylan has a long interest in global health, and worked in both Nepal and Kenya as a resident. As a staff he helped to found the University of Zambia anesthesia residency program in 2010, training the first anesthesiologists in Zambia since independence in 1964. He is the Chair of CASIEF (the Canadian Anesthesiologists Society International Education Foundation) which has partnerships to support residency education in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Guyana and Burkina Faso. He also sits on Education Committee of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiology. He recently returned from a sabbatical year in Rwanda, where he was working with the department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Emergency Medicine.

RESIDENT TRAVEL BURSARY: MacGlObAS will be awarding a travel bursary to two residents* whose abstracts are accepted to the Bethune Roundtable 2020 in Winnipeg.
To apply: Email proof of acceptance of your abstract with a copy of the abstract, proof of conference registration, and identify which department and PGY you are currently in. All applications received will be reviewed by MacGlObAS Executive. Deadline for applications will be posted on the website soon. Please note that funding is limited to two bursaries.
*To qualify, applicants must be current residents in McMaster PGME programs within the Departments of Anesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynecology, or Surgery.

Masters in Global Surgical Care program
This online two-year, 30 credit specialized program is designed to prepare surgical care professionals from many disciplines to address surgical challenges and contribute to finding solutions in low resource settings globally.
The program provides a strong foundation for present and future global surgical care professionals by developing knowledge and skills in the interpretation and use of published experience and research, balanced with applied learning in low resource settings.
