March Monthly Round-Up
Dear MacGlObAS Friends,
We are in an unprecedented time that for many of us has caused significant economic, professional, and social upheaval. As much of the world has closed its borders and the global population is told to practice social distancing to prevent further spread of COVD-19, as healthcare providers we are compelled by our profession to step-in.
Be it through our words of encouragement with difficult news, skills of our hands, or the comfort that even one’s presence can bring, WE continue to make a difference, especially in these difficult times.
During these times, we also encourage you to reach out to your global health colleagues. For a health system as robust as our own and the challenges we are already anticipating, we can only imagine the trepidation that our global colleagues are experiencing working in health systems that were overburdened before the pandemic arrived. Reach out to them, check-in, offer encouragement or whatever support may be possible during this time.
And lastly, but definitely not any less important, look after yourself, your family, and your colleagues. And reach out if you are in need. Visit McMaster FHS website for information, resources, and support provided at McMaster. We have had to make the difficult decision to postpone this year’s MacGlObAS Rounds in May, but MacGlObAS will continue to work remotely keeping you up-to-date on Global Surgery, including resources, recent research, and upcoming online events. Please contact us if you would have any questions or would like to share an opportunity or resource.
Sincerely,
David Oldenburger, RN, MSc.

Opportunity to Participate in Study:
A rapid qualitative study with front-line providers addressing the COVID-19 Outbreak is being conducted by researchers from McMaster, Western, in conjunction with a WHO Working Group.
Description: The goal of this study is to inform discussion and approaches to the care and treatment of seriously ill patients who will not be prioritized for critical care during COVID-19, as well as approaches for the context-sensitive communication of these approaches to affected populations. Ultimately, we hope to rapidly generate evidence that can inform governments and healthcare organizations in their development and implementation of realistic and socially, culturally sensitive COVID-19 triage and triage communication strategies.
If you are interested in being interviewed, please contact Assistant Professor Elysee Nouvet, PhD (enouvet@uwo.ca).

Bethune Roundtable 2020 Conference
28-31 May 2020
Message from the organizers:
Bethune Round Table 2020 Conference UPDATE!
Thank you for your interest in the Bethune Round Table Conference.
We have been monitoring Coronavirus concerns and having weighed the potential health risks to our community we have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the Winnipeg hosted Bethune Round Table 2020.
This decision was not taken lightly. Due to the fact that the majority of our speakers were travelling from all over the world, we could not pose this risk to our participants.
Thank you for your support. We are optimistic that this conference will be rescheduled in the future and we look forward to seeing you in Winnipeg at that time.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Melanie Morris
Chair of Bethune 2020
